💡 Strengthening Community Impact: CPO Orientation
On May 23, 2025, AFS IEP Ghana hosted a dynamic orientation workshop for Community Project Organisations (CPOs) at our Accra office. This important gathering, supported by AFS Germany and the Weltwärts program, brought together 19 partner organisations from across the country. It focused on strengthening their understanding of AFS’ hosting framework and reinforcing their critical role in welcoming and supporting international volunteers in Ghana.
Participants explored key themes such as volunteer support structures, cultural integration, and impact assessment—with a special focus on how previous collaborations have positively influenced local communities. The interactive nature of the session created space for rich discussion and peer learning, fostering renewed energy and commitment to the AFS vision.
We are grateful for the enthusiasm and dedication of our CPO partners, and we look forward to deepening these partnerships to create more meaningful intercultural experiences.

👥 Empowering Local Changemakers: Volunteer Training in Aburi
On June 21, 2025, we brought together 40 passionate Ghanaian volunteers in Aburi for a transformative training and orientation. With support from AFS Germany and the Weltwärts program, this day-long session focused on equipping volunteers with the knowledge, confidence, and cultural tools needed to support international exchange participants effectively.
Topics included participant safeguarding, conflict resolution, intercultural learning methodologies, and strategies for building stronger community ties. Beyond the training content, the event provided a sense of belonging—volunteers reconnected, shared experiences, and left feeling inspired to lead and mentor.
Volunteers are the soul of the AFS movement—uplifting lives and creating ripple effects in communities far and wide.

🏡 Homes That Inspire: Host Family Orientation
On June 7, 2025, we held a heartwarming orientation for our host families in Weta Hills, Ho (Volta Region) to prepare for the arrival of international volunteers. Backed by AFS Germany and the Weltwärts program, this orientation was more than just a briefing—it was a celebration of the remarkable role our host families play in creating safe, welcoming, and transformative home environments for young people from across the globe.
The session delved into cultural adaptation, managing expectations, family dynamics, and emotional support—all framed within the context of mutual respect and global learning. Families shared personal stories, built connections, and reaffirmed their commitment to the life-changing experience of intercultural hosting.
AFS host families are the heart of what we do. They don’t just open their homes—they open minds.

🌍 Celebrating Global Journeys: Exchange Students Head Home
In July, we said a heartfelt goodbye to our 2024–2025 AFS exchange students from France and Italy. These young ambassadors spent a full academic year in Ghana, attending Achimota School, Aburi Girls’ SHS, St. Mary’s SHS, and Association International School.
Their final orientation was a space of gratitude and reflection—sharing stories of growth, cultural discovery, and lasting friendships. Students explored themes such as reverse culture shock, post-exchange integration, and how to carry forward the values of intercultural understanding and leadership.
As they return home, they take a piece of Ghana with them—and leave behind a legacy of openness and connection.
