🇬🇭🇺🇸 AFS IEP Ghana Inducted into AmCham Ghana! 🎉

We’re proud to share that AFS Intercultural Exchange Programs (IEP) Ghana has been officially inducted as a new member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ghana (AmCham Ghana)!

In its announcement, AmCham Ghana noted:
“We are pleased to welcome AFS Intercultural Exchange Programs Ghana as our newest member company. We are excited to build a collaborative and impactful partnership, and we look forward to working together to advance shared goals and strengthen cross-cultural connections.”

AmCham Ghana is a leading business and professional association that fosters trade, investment, and cultural ties between Ghana and the United States. It brings together organisations committed to innovation, collaboration, and sustainable development — values that deeply align with AFS IEP Ghana’s mission.

As part of the official onboarding process, we had the pleasure of welcoming Mrs. Jane Okyere-Aduache, Acting Executive Secretary of AmCham Ghana, to our office in Westlands.

Through this new partnership, AFS IEP Ghana strengthens its connection to the U.S. and reaffirms its dedication to promoting educational exchange, youth leadership, and global citizenship. 🌍💫

We look forward to an inspiring collaboration with AmCham Ghana in building bridges of opportunity, learning, and intercultural understanding.

✨Reconnecting with AFS ALUMNI from 1967!🌟

Last month, we were so excited to reconnect with one of our alumni from the very first cohort of AFS Ghana exchange alumni to the United States of America; Prof. Augustin K. Fosu, Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), University of Ghana 🎓🇬🇭.

Prof. Fosu recounted fond memories of his relationship with his host families and how this opportunity of studying and living abroad shaped his career in Economics 🌍📚. Prof. Fosu was part of a group of six students selected from various regions in Ghana in 1967 to travel to the U.S. for a year-long intercultural exchange 🇺🇸.

He was hosted in California, where he experienced a new way of life and gained exposure to different perspectives and ideas that broadened his understanding of the world 🌎✨. The exchange, he shared, not only influenced his academic path but also inspired his commitment to promoting learning and global cooperation 🤝.

Today, he continues to contribute to education and research, serving as an inspiration to many young Ghanaians who aspire to make a global impact 💡🌏❤️.

As we celebrate stories like Prof. Fosu’s, we’re also inviting all AFS Ghana alumni to reconnect and be part of our growing community! 💫 If you haven’t yet, kindly register clicking the link

🇫🇷🤝🇬🇭 A French Welcome with France Volontaires! 🌍

On 24th September 2025, our exchange participants from France and Ghanaian students to France joined representatives from France Volontaires Ghana for an inspiring afternoon of intercultural learning and connection. 💬✨

The interactive session explored how French and Ghanaian cultures adapt to and learn from each other from the French cheek kiss greeting to the warm hospitality and community spirit that define everyday life in Ghana.

During the discussion, participants reflected on their personal experiences and initial expectations before arriving in Ghana. Many shared that while they had heard mixed opinions from friends, their own research and first-hand experiences revealed a different truth; that Ghana is a beautiful, welcoming, and vibrant country. 🌺

The conversation also delved into sensitive yet enriching cultural topics, encouraging participants to listen with empathy, respect differences, and appreciate shared values that unite people across borders. 🌐💛

The visit ended with smiles, laughter, and a renewed understanding that curiosity and respect are powerful bridges between cultures.

We’re grateful to France Volontaires Ghana for their continued collaboration in nurturing cultural exchange and global citizenship. 🌟

🇩🇪🌍 Obaake to Our 2025/2026 Weltwärts Volunteers!

A big Ghanaian welcome—Obaake!—to our newest group of Weltwärts volunteers from Germany who have just arrived in Ghana for their year of service and intercultural exchange.

Over the next 10 months, these passionate young volunteers will be partnering with local community organisations, schools, and social initiatives across the country, contributing their time, skills, and creativity to meaningful development projects. From supporting education and environmental initiatives to advancing gender equality and youth empowerment, their work will touch lives and strengthen communities.

But beyond service, the Weltwärts experience is about mutual learning and cultural connection. Each volunteer will live with a Ghanaian host family, experience daily life in our communities, and build lifelong friendships that cross borders and cultures.

The program is an initiative of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) designed to promote global citizenship and sustainable development through volunteer exchange. It gives young people the chance to understand the world from a new perspective, while fostering solidarity between Germany and partner countries like Ghana.

As these volunteers begin their journey, we are excited for the stories they will live, the communities they will impact, and the bridges they will build between Ghana and Germany.

💬 To our new volunteers: Welcome home to Ghana!
May your year be filled with learning, laughter, and purpose.
🙏🏾 A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated host families, mentors, and partner organisations who make this life-changing experience possible.

🌍 AFS IEP Ghana joins 2025 Model Commonwealth Summit Panel on Mentorship and Diplomacy Dialogue

Last month, AFS IEP Ghana proudly participated in the 2025 Model Commonwealth Summit, joining an inspiring panel discussion on “Multilateral Development and Diplomacy.” The session explored how collaboration, innovation, and youth engagement can drive solutions to today’s global challenges.

Representing AFS IEP Ghana, Mrs. Diana Sey, Partners Director, shared how AFS’s work in intercultural learning and youth exchanges supports the principles of multilateral diplomacy—building trust, empathy, and understanding across borders.

“At AFS Ghana, we see young people not just as future leaders, but as present actors in diplomacy, innovation, and community transformation.”

She highlighted that diplomacy begins with people—when young individuals live, learn, and serve across cultures, they form lifelong connections that foster peace and cooperation.

AFS IEP Ghana remains committed to preparing youth with the skills of effective diplomacy—intercultural competence, adaptability, empathy, and global awareness—to ensure Ghanaian youth are not only present in international spaces but are influential and respected voices at the table.

🌿 Volunteer Picnic at Rufus Park – Celebrating Connection, Growth & Community 🌞

Last month, our volunteers, students, and their families came together at Rufus Park for a vibrant day of games, laughter, and shared memories. Each group proudly wore its own colour — reds, blues, yellows, and more — turning the park into a lively rainbow of energy and unity. 🌈

The afternoon was filled with friendly competition and teamwork through classic games like sack races, tug of war, football, and bottle flip challenges. Between cheers and laughter, families and students bonded, newcomers introduced themselves, and our international guests got a taste of local Ghanaian hospitality and cuisine. 🍛🥤

Beyond the fun, the picnic was a powerful reminder of why volunteer get-togethers are such an important part of the AFS journey. They create spaces for reflection, learning, and connection — helping volunteers recharge, share experiences, and build the friendships that sustain their service. These moments of community strengthen our shared mission and deepen the impact of every volunteer’s contribution. 💪🏾💛

As we celebrated our dedicated volunteers, the event also reaffirmed that being part of AFS Ghana means belonging to a family that learns, serves, and grows together — no matter where you are.
