✨ Northern Ghana Exchange: A Journey to Remember
In February, eight AFS high school exchange students travelled from Accra to Tamale, experiencing the rich cultural tapestry of Ghana’s Northern Region. Hosted in schools such as Vitting SHS, Tamale SHS, Tamale Girls SHS, and Ghana SHS, the students immersed themselves in everything from Dagbani traditions to northern cuisine like Wasawasa and Yombaka.
A major highlight was witnessing a traditional Dagomba-Gonja marriage ceremony, deepening their understanding of family and culture in Ghana. The students also helped launch AFS School Clubs in each of their host schools—leaving a legacy of engagement and global curiosity.
✈️ These aren’t just trips—they’re lifelong transformations.

🌿 Welcome, 2025 Weltwärts Volunteers!
In January 2025, we welcomed four dedicated German volunteers as part of the Weltwärts SH25 program.
After arriving in Ghana, they were placed with our partner organisations and matched with host families, where they began their volunteer journeys.
In March, they attended a post-arrival orientation, and in June, they participated in a mid-stay program—including an eye-opening trip to Crown Forest Reserve, which highlighted the importance of environmental conservation in Ghana.
Meet the volunteers:
• Felicitas Tritschler – Play and Learn Foundation
• Jacob Feldmann – Human Rights Advocacy Centre
• Matthias Pflug – Future of Africa
• Lorenz Weindel – Streams In The Desert

🏫 School Clubs Reborn: AFS Youth Movement Takes Off Again!
AFS Ghana has officially re-launched its high school clubs—and the energy has been electric! We kicked things off in June with reactivations at Accra Girls’ SHS and Achimota SHS, where our student leaders began building strong, inclusive spaces for dialogue, service, and global learning.
The momentum continued with a spectacular event on Saturday, June 28, hosted at St. Augustine’s College, Cape Coast. Over 600 students from seven top schools—including Adisadel College, Holy Child, Wesley Girls’ SHS, Mfantsiman Girls’, Ghana National College, and Aggrey Memorial—came together for a day of culture, celebration, and citizenship. With lively performances, passionate speeches, and an engaging intercultural quiz (won by Wesley Girls’ SHS), the event was a vivid display of the transformative power of youth leadership.
AFS school clubs are more than extracurricular groups—they’re incubators of empathy, civic action, and global vision.
